Brush Fire Scorches Land Near Vineyards In Saratoga
SARATOGA (CBS SF) -- Santa Clara County crews were battling a vegetation fire near vineyards in Saratoga on Monday, according to authorities.
The fire was 70 percent contained as of 10 p.m. Monday, according to fire officials.
The Santa Clara County Fire Department's Twitter account first posted about the fire shortly before 4 p.m.
The fire has scorched roughly ten acres.
A shelter-in-place order was issued for the western edge of Saratoga shortly after 5 p.m. due to the massive column of smoke being produced by the fire.
The fire is in the area of the Mount Eden Vineyard. As of 6 p.m., the fire was burning toward the Mountain Winery vineyard, Santa Clara County fire officials said.
An evacuation warning was in effect for nearby residents and livestock.
The flames could be seen burning up a hillside between some high-end homes on one side and vineyards on the other.
The Mountain Winery, a popular music venue with several concerts scheduled this week, is located at 14831 Pierce Road.
While there were no evacuations in place and no structures being threatened, Santa Clara Fire was asking that those living in the area stay off the roads to allow fire trucks easier access.
CalFire was providing air support with tankers dropping fire retardant on the flames and the trees around the fire.
