Santa Rosa Police: DUI Suspect Took Girlfriend, Child On Chase
SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) – A man was arrested Wednesday night following a vehicle pursuit in Santa Rosa.
Xavier Olivarez, 22, of Santa Rosa, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, felony evading a police officer in a vehicle, driving on a suspended license, violation of probation, child endangerment and on an outstanding warrant.
At 8:08 p.m. Wednesday, a Santa Rosa police officer was patrolling the area of Sebastopol Road and Lombardi Lane when he saw a green Honda turn onto Lombardi Road and accelerate above the posted speed limit.
The officer tried to pull over the Honda, but the driver sped up and ran a stop sign, then almost struck several parked vehicles, police said.
The officer pursued the vehicle onto Campbell Drive and then onto Quintin Place, where the driver, later identified as Olivarez, stopped and fled on foot through a residential neighborhood.
The officer located a female passenger and a small child inside the stopped Honda. The two were later identified as Olivarez's girlfriend and child, according to police.
Police set up a perimeter and located Olivarez in the area of Stony Point Road and Campbell Drive. He was taken into custody without incident.
