Santa Rosa Enacts Rent Control After City Council Votes 4-2

SANTA ROSA (KCBS/AP) -- The biggest city in the wine country is the latest to enact rent control.

Santa Rosa's city council members voted 4-2 on Tuesday night to cap rent increases.

This means owners of older apartment cannot raise rents by more than three percent per year unless they've made major improvements to the property.

Rents in Sonoma County as a whole are estimated to have gone up by 45 percent over the last five years.
