Man Surrenders After Leading Police On Chase From Santa Cruz To Cupertino
SANTA CRUZ (KPIX) -- A high-speed police chase that began in Santa Cruz early Sunday involved three law-enforcement agencies and ended with a suspect in handcuffs after a 30-mile chase across Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties.
The situation began around midnight when police in Santa Cruz got a call about a man driving erratically. When officers caught up with the suspect, he didn't stop, then led them on a near-two-hour chase over city streets and onto Highway 17.
Police eventually cornered him near Bubb Road in Cupertino.
"They tried to coax him out of the vehicle with talking. He didn't want to comply. He did have a device in there that might have caused an explosion. He had a fuel tank in there that he was trying to puncture," CHP Sgt. Daniel Hill told KPIX.
The suspect eventually surrendered and climbed out of the van. He was taken to a hospital before being booked.
