Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority Rolls Out New Hybrid Buses
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority on Friday introduced 29 new lower-emissions hybrid-diesel buses.
The 60-foot articulated buses will replaced older buses on the agency's Rapid 522 Line on El Camino Real and the Alum Rock-Santa Clara bus rapid transit corridor.
The buses included additional interior and exterior capacity for bicycles, multi-door boarding, free Wi-Fi and more comfortable seats, officials said.
The hybrid buses produce 95 percent lower nitrogen oxide emissions and 80 percent less particulate matter, and 25 percent better fuel economy.
The VTA first introduced hybrid diesel-electric buses in November 2010.
