Santa Clara University Student Arrested After Allegedly Stabbing His Roommate

SANTA CLARA (KCBS) – A student at Santa Clara University has been arrested after allegedly attacking his roommate in an on-campus dorm with a knife.

Santa Clara police said the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Officers responded to a report of an assault at a dormitory at 500 El Camino Real.

Police said 19-year-old Dillon Kim stabbed his roommate and then turned the knife on himself.

The victim suffered multiple lacerations. Police said he was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover.

Students at the university were taken aback by the attack. "It's very un-Santa Clara like," said a senior on campus Wednesday morning. "I don't know what the situation was going on with both of them or what the altercation was. It's a very sad story and I hope that they're both okay."

Kim has been booked into Santa Clara County Jail and faces attempted homicide charges. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday morning.

In a statement, Santa Clara University said " The Office of Student Life, Residence Life, Campus Ministry, Campus Safety Services and the University's counseling center are available to assist students and their families should they have any concerns or questions. The University is cooperating closely with the Santa Clara Police Department in an active and ongoing police investigation. The health and welfare of our students is of paramount concern to the University, and we are doing all we can to assist the affected families."
