Santa Clara Police Officers Shoot, Kill Woman Armed With Baseball Bat

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- Officers shot and killed a female suspect armed with a baseball bat outside of her apartment on Sunday evening, a police lieutenant said.

Around 4:50 p.m., Santa Clara police received a call from a female suspect who made threats to harm herself and others, Lt. Kurt Clarke said.

Officers were dispatched to her apartment in the 5000 block of Lick Mill Boulevard located near Tasman Drive, he said.

She appeared at the front door of the apartment and attacked the officers with an aluminum baseball bat, he said.

Two officers, who feared for their safety, shot at her, Clarke said.

She was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, according to Clarke.

The shooting remains under investigation, he said.

Police have not identified the female suspect or officers involved, Clarke said.
