Bay Area Unemployment Below State Average, San Mateo County Rate Best

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- All of the Bay Area's nine counties had unemployment rates last month below the state average, according to the California Employment Development Department.

California's unemployment rate last month, unadjusted for seasonal effects, was 6.2 percent. The seasonally adjusted rate in California in June was 6.3 percent, according to employment officials.

Among Bay Area counties, Solano County had the highest unemployment rate in June at 5.9 percent on an unadjusted basis, employment officials said.

The unadjusted rates in five Bay Area counties in June were 4 to 4.9 percent and in three Bay Area counties the unadjusted rates were 3.3 (San Mateo) to 3.5 percent (San Francisco), employment officials said.

San Mateo County unadjusted June unemployment rate of 3.3 percent was the lowest in the Bay Area, according to the employment development department.
