San Mateo Police Dog 'Hero' Apprehends 1st Suspect

SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- A San Mateo police dog named "Hero" apprehended his first suspect after police responded to a vehicle burglary early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress in the 3600 block of Colegrove Street, one of four in a succession of window-smash auto burglaries in the area, according to San Mateo police Sgt. Dave Norris.

The two suspects had fled by the time officers arrived, but a community member was able to give officers an idea of their location, Norris said.

Police established a perimeter and began searching yards for the suspects with their K-9 partner, Norris said.

Hero located a suspect hiding in a yard on Mulryan Court and helped police apprehend him, according to Norris.

The suspect, Wilton Robinson, 20, is an Oakland resident. A witness identified him as one of the alleged burglars, Norris said.

Police were not able to find the second suspect, Norris said.

Investigators were able to recover all of the stolen property, which the suspects dropped while they were running away, Norris said.

Robinson was booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of vehicle burglary and possession of stolen property, Norris said.
