San Mateo Police Arrest 2 Suspects Involved In Separate Auto Dealership Burglaries
SAN MATEO (KCBS) — San Mateo police arrested two men on Tuesday suspected of stealing cars from dealerships last month and are looking into whether they are connected to similar thefts this past weekend.
San Mateo Police Sgt. Rick Decker told KCBS that the first happened on Aug. 17 at Brand Motors on 4001 S. El Camino Real where two vehicles were stolen overnight. On Aug. 22, thieves targeted Trax Auto, located at 4301 S. El Camino Real, but only made off with about 40 sets of car keys.
Decker said the thieves returned the next night and stole two vehicles.
Decker said that detectives served a search warrant on Tuesday at a home in Oakland where they found evidence linked to the three burglaries.

"We've been following up since Aug. 17 regarding three burglaries that happened in San Mateo at two different auto dealerships. The investigation lead to the city of Oakland where our detectives today served a search warrant and a probation search on the residence of a house on Wallace Street," he said.
"Inside of that house, as a result of the search, they found evidence that linked the residents of that house to all three burglaries in San Mateo."
There they arrested 19-year-old Marquis Banks and 18-year-old Moufassa Hauley. Both are residents of Oakland.
Detectives are now working with other agencies in the Bay Area to see if the suspects could be connected with other similar crimes. They are also continuing to work to identify other suspects.
Thieves hit least three car dealerships in San Jose and Belmont this past weekend driving off with more than 20 cars.
