Lunchtime fight at middle school in San Leandro prompts police response
SAN LEANDRO – A fight between students took place at a middle school in San Leandro on Monday, prompting a response by authorities.
Around 1:30 p.m., police said officers responded to Washington Manor Middle School at 1170 Fargo Avenue.
"There is no threat to students or staff," police said.
In an update Monday afternoon, officials with the San Lorenzo Unified School district said that the fight involved a "small group of students" on the school's blacktop during the lunch hour. The fight was halted by school staff and there were no injuries.
According to a district spokesperson, police responded to the school after a student called 911 and falsely reported that shots were fired. No weapons were found.
Responding officers investigated and then assisted staff in managing the situation, the district said.
Some families arrived at the school around 1:30 p.m. to bring their children home, but other students returned to class and were dismissed on schedule.
"The safety of students and staff is always the highest priority at Washington Manor Middle School and throughout the San Lorenzo Unified School District. School staff and administrators will do all they can to avoid a recurrence of today's disruption," the district said.
