San Leandro Man Arrested For Stealing Puppies, Selling Them On Craigslist

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- A San Leandro man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing two puppies and putting them up for sale on Craigslist, according to police.

On Wednesday, a woman reported to officers that her German Shepherd puppies were stolen from her Livermore home last week, San Leandro police said.

The woman checked Craigslist and found her puppies were put up for sale, according to police.

She contacted the seller on the listing and arranged to meet with him at an undisclosed location in San Leandro, police said.

The woman confronted the man, later identified as Richard Coleman, and he ran away, according to police.

Officers were able to ruse Coleman to another location where he was arrested, police said.

Coleman had one of the puppies with him when he was arrested and led officers to the second puppy, according to police.

Both puppies were unharmed and returned to the woman, police said.

Coleman, 30, was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property and extortion.
