San Leandro Police Seek Public Help Identifying Burglary Suspects

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- San Leandro police are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects in three house burglaries on Friday and attempted break-ins later that day at two other residences where people were inside.

However, at this point police don't believe that all of the burglaries were committed by the same suspects.

The first burglary, in which the suspects were captured on home surveillance video, occurred at about 9:45 a.m. on Friday at a house in the 2100 block of Bradhoff Avenue in San Leandro's Assumption Parrish neighborhood.

The surveillance video shows two burglars taking concealable items before fleeing in what appears to be a red, 4-door Honda Civic with oxidized paint on its roof, according to police.

The suspects are described by police as black males in their late teens to early 20s who were both wearing jeans and hooded sweatshirts with hoods covering their heads.

Beginning at 8:50 p.m. on Friday there were four burglaries and attempted burglaries in the Bay-O-Vista neighborhood in a 30-minute period, with suspects striking homes in the 2200 block of Lakeview Drive, the 1500 block of Regent Drive, the 1800 block of Benedict Drive and the 1900 block of Marineview Drive, police said.

In two of the incidents, residents were at home when the suspects smashed rear sliding glass doors but police said that for some reason the suspects didn't go inside those homes.

In the other two break-ins, the suspects took small items of value before fleeing, according to police.

Police spokesman Lt. Robert McManus said in a statement, "We need the public's help in solving these crimes and preventing future ones from occurring."

McManus said, "If you see a suspicious car or person in your neighborhood, please call us and let us investigate. We'd rather find out that they are there legitimately rather than later learn that they burglarized a home or committed some other type of crime."

He said police are asking residents in the Bay-O-Vista neighborhood to review their own surveillance video from Friday night and to report anything suspicious to the Police Department's criminal investigation unit at (510) 577-3230.
