San Jose Police Struck By Vehicle; Driver Accused Of Hit-&-Run

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – A man has been arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run after a San Jose police officer was struck by a vehicle early Friday morning.

At 12:39 a.m. police said the officer was walking back to his car after an unrelated traffic stop near Suncrest Avenue and Perie Lane in the city's eastern foothills when he was struck by a Subaru traveling at an unsafe speed.

A witness at the scene told police he saw a vehicle speeding up a hill before losing control.

Police said the driver left the scene immediately after the collision. Arriving officers arrested the suspect without incident.

The officer was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, identified as Johnathan Hall, was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of felony hit and run and driving under the influence.

According to jail records, Hall is being held on $150,000 bail. He is expected to appear in court on May 11.

Police said the case remains under investigation.
