San Jose Police Officer Arraigned On Marijuana Possession Charges With Intent To Sell
SAN JOSE (KCBS) -- A 21-year veteran of the San Jose police force faces nearly four years in jail if convicted on charges of marijuana possession with intent to sell after being arraigned Friday afternoon.
The Santa Clara County district attorney's office said a locker that 44-year-old officer, Son Vu, was renting was filled with marijuana.
In a statement, supervising Deputy District Attorney Patrick Vanier said it's deeply disappointing that an officer sworn to uphold the law would so brazenly break it.
Last year, the incident came to light when the owner of the storage company cut the lock on a delinquent renter's storage space.
Investigators said 12 pounds of marijuana was found inside, as well as a series of grow lights.
Vu has been on paid administrative leave since last June and is being held on $100,000 bail. He faces three years and eight months in prison if convicted.
According to police, $5,700 in cash was found in the officer's personal car as well as a thumb drive which contained information on police calls to marijuana grow houses.
