Homicide Victim, Marijuana Plants Found Inside San Jose Coyote Creek Home
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Police are investigating a fatal shooting in a San Jose home where officers found a number of marijuana plants on Monday night, a police sergeant said.
Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive person at a home in the 5100 block of Eppling Lane around 9:40 p.m., Sgt. Heather Randol said.
A man was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene, Randol said.
Police are looking into the motive and circumstances of the murder, she said.
The home is part of a well manicured residential area bordered by Coyote Creek and Highway 101.
Police found more than several potted marijuana plants inside the home.
No suspects are in custody, police did would not disclose who called 911 and no further details were immediately available, Randol said.
The man's name is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin, she said.
Nearby resident Mayda Vallejo said she never noticed anything suspicious about the house.
"I was really surprised because this is a very good neighborhood, very quiet," she said.
Police said they would not classify the home as a marijuana grow house. Other neighbors said at least two marijuana grow houses had been shut down within a block of the murder scene.
The death marks the city's ninth homicide of the year.
