San Jose Earthquake Chris Wondolowski Secures Spot On US World Cup Roster; Landon Donovan Cut

STANFORD (CBS SF) -- San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski has secured a spot on the World Cup roster for the U.S. national team.

Head coach Jürgen Klinsmann released the 23-man roster of players that will travel to Brazil to compete in the World Cup Thursday.

Wondolowski, a native of Danville, was the top goal scorer in Major League Soccer in 2012. He is a graduate of Concord's De La Salle High School and Chico State University.

Former Earthquake Landon Donovan, for years the face of US Soccer, was one of the seven cuts among the 30 U.S. players training at Stanford University over the last week vying for a spot on the team.

Ironically, Donovan's image was briefly featured in an advertising banner on the US Soccer website page listing the World Cup roster.

Another San Jose Earthquake, defender Clarence Woodson, was among the other players cut from the national squad.
