San Francisco To Launch Marijuana-Themed Newspaper In 2015

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – The San Francisco Media Company is replacing the San Francisco Bay Guardian with the Bay Area's first marijuana-themed newspaper.

According to the online site "The Desk" and journalist Matthew Keys, the paper will be called the San Francisco Evergreen and is scheduled for a formal launch on January 26.

The San Francisco Bay Guardian published its final issue on October 15. The weekly alternative newspaper had been one of the leading progressive voices in San Francisco for 48 years. San Francisco Media Company said the closure was for financial reasons. The company also runs the San Francisco Examiner and SF Weekly.

"The Desk" cites sources with knowledge of the paper's forthcoming plans and said designers have already created a mock-up of what the newspaper will look like, and sales staffers are already reaching out to potential advertisers.

The newspaper is expected to have an online presence at SFEvergreen.com.
