San Francisco SoMa shooting victim crashes, dies, after attempting to drive away
SAN FRANCISCO -- A person who was fatally shot early Sunday morning in San Francisco's South of Market district drove away from the scene before crashing about a block away, police said Monday.
The shooting happened at around 4:30 a.m. on the 900 block of Folsom Street. San Francisco Police said the victim was in his vehicle when someone approached it and shot into his vehicle.
The victim fled in his vehicle and crashed at Fifth and Shipley streets, San Francisco police said in a news release.
Officers who responded found the victim with a gunshot wound. They provided aid and summoned medics, but despite lifesaving efforts, the person died at the scene. The victim was a 24-year-old Oakland resident whose name has not been released.
No arrests have been made in the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD 24-hour Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD. Tips may remain anonymous.
Police said the shooting was unrelated to a second shooting in SoMa near 7th and Stevenson Streets later that day at around 9:30 p.m. In that shooting, police say two San Francisco residents were arguing when one of them, a 34-year-old man, shot the 60-year-old victim whose injuries were not life-threatening.
Police credited witnesses, video, and patrol officers for later finding the suspect near 16th and Mission Streets. He was arrested and booked for the shooting, along with gun and drug charges.
