Man injured in shooting at Market and Van Ness expected to survive

SAN FRANCISCO -- Police in San Francisco are investigating a shooting at the intersection of Van Ness Avenue and Market Street late Friday afternoon that injured one person.

San Francisco police units responded to an incident at the intersection sometime after 4 p.m. that closed an entrance to the Van Ness Muni station, according to transit officials.

The victim, a 30-year-old man, was shot about 4:08 p.m. He was taken to a local hospital and was expected to survive, police said.

Initial reports of the incident and the response of several San Francisco police and fire units came at around 4:15 p.m.

SFPD Deputy Chief Raj Vaswani confirmed that the department's investigations unit was handling the incident.

The SFMTA Twitter account posted a photo that showed police at the southeast corner of the intersection near the Bank of America ATMs and Van Ness Station entrance cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape.

Officials said the southeast entrance of Van Ness Station was closed but that Muni Metro service was uninterrupted at the station.

No arrests were immediately reported.
