San Francisco Pediatric Nurse Helps Others In Their Parenting Journey

Karmi Soder is a pediatric nurse practitioner and co-founder of NewboRN-Solutions.  The company provides experts in the home for families CPR in the living room, lactation consultants, newborn caregivers, pre and postnatal massages, private childbirth and newborn care education, all with trusted, vetted experts.  Soder is a mother of four and wants to help families with known experts they need, but may not even be aware of such as: potty trainers, intimacy coaches and pelvic floor therapists.

What is your favorite part of your daily duties?

"I love meeting new people.  Whether it is a new parent looking for help in between the tears (of both joy and exhaustion) or an expert in mindfulness education or energetic fertility, I am always learning from others.  I enjoy telling the story of NewboRN-Solutions and how we as moms and nurses set out to help others on this journey of parenting."

Do you feel your education prepared you for your current role?

"Education is vital to what I do. NewboRN-Solutions is all about education, and my background as a nurse practitioner is critical to understanding the needs of patients and referring physicians and experts who provide the services.  Going to Georgetown University for my Bachelor of Science in nursing from growing up in Dallas, Texas was a big life lesson. And then [I went] to University of Pennsylvania for a dual master's degree.  I worked in Manhattan full-time in a pediatric critical care unit and took the train to Philadelphia for school.  The education was vital and provided many opportunities of experience."

Do you have any advice for people who desire to pursue a similar career?

"My advice….Talk to people.  Ask questions.  Surround yourself with people different from you and learn from them.  Challenge yourself but know you need not strive for perfection, but balance.  Breath and enjoy the ride, it is the only one you will get, and by continual education you are always expanding your mind and thoughts.  Anything is possible."
