San Francisco Law Group Suing John Kerry Over Yemeni-Americans' Passports
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A San Francisco group is suing John Kerry over the practice of taking passports away from Yemeni-Americans after a man was left stranded in Yemen while visiting relatives.
Omar Masad claims he was not permitted to return to the U.S. for over a year after his passport was confiscated, and he was subjected to aggressive interrogation.
The lawsuit claims that the State Department has been "taking U.S. passports away from Yemeni-Americans based on bizarre allegations that their identities are 'false' – without first giving them a day in court, and in many cases leaving them stranded abroad."
Attorneys with the Asian Law Caucus filed the suit.
Oakland business owner Rayman Hussein was stuck in Yemen for over a year as well after his passport was confiscated.
