A 44-year-old man was found guilty of sexually abusing a minor in 2021, according to San Francisco prosecutors.

Fredy Gomez-Orozco was convicted of forcible oral copulation of a minor, two counts of sexual battery by restraint, and one count of sexual battery, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office said in a statement Wednesday.

"I would like to thank the survivor for her courage and resilience," said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. "I hope that this verdict helps her heal from these traumatic incidents. My office takes these cases seriously and will do everything we can to ensure that justice is served."

Based on testimony and evidence presented at trial, a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by Gomez-Orozco while he was alone with her for two days on Oct. 2, 2021. Prosecutors said he hugged her from behind as she was standing at the kitchen sink washing the dishes before Gomez-Orozco then restrained her and began sexually assaulting her, according to prosecutors.

When he was again alone with the victim the following day, he told her he would pay her for every hug she gave him and then forcibly orally copulated her. Prosecutors said she fought him off and ran to the bathroom where she was able to call her mother.

That night, police were alerted to his sexual assaults.

"This case is a testament to the power and strength of the sexual assault survivor," Assistant District Attorney Michele Brass said in a statement. "I want to thank the jurors for providing justice for the survivor who displayed tremendous courage in not only reporting this egregious conduct, but also throughout this long trial process.

"I am honored to have met and worked with her and her mother who was a true champion for her daughter. The jurors sent a strong message that this betrayal and unacceptable conduct by the defendant should not be tolerated," he added.

Gomez-Orozco is in custody while hearing proceedings ongoing on charged aggravated factors.
