Motorcyclist dies in San Francisco crash after landing on I-80 connector to Hwy 101
A serious injury collision in San Francisco involving a motorcyclist closed lanes of westbound I-80 in San Francisco as well as the southbound U.S. Highway 101 connector to eastbound I-80 for about an hour Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.
The collision reportedly happened at about 2:45 p.m. Thursday. CHP issued a severe traffic alert shortly before 3 p.m. after confirming the collision with injuries on westbound I-80 at US-101 in San Francisco.
The left and center lanes of westbound I-80 were blocked, while the southbound US-101 ramp to eastbound I-80 connector ramp was completely shut down. There were initial reports that the collision involved a motorcycle rider who did not survive the collision.
At 3:30 p.m., CHP reported that the left lane of the connector ramp had reopened. The right lane remained closed.

CHP and San Francisco Fire units responded to the scene.
CHP later confirmed that their dispatch received the initial call at 2:29 p.m. The motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Highway 101 and continuing onto eastbound I-80 when the collision happened. The rider -- an approximately 35-year-old male -- was ejected over the freeway lane barrier and wall, falling onto the lower westbound I-80 connector to southbound 101. After landing, he was immediately struck by vehicle in traffic lanes.
Arriving San Francisco Fire crews attempted CPR, but the rider was pronounced dead at 2:46 p.m. There were no other injuries reported, CHP said.
All lanes reopened at 3:45 p.m. about an hour after the crash was first reported. Motorists are advised to expect residual delays and to use alternate routes
