Sacramento Kings Build World's First Arena With 'All-Gender' Restrooms

SACRAMENTO (CBS SF) -- The Sacramento Kings have built the world's first entertainment arena with restrooms that accommodate transgender fans.

The state-of-the-art Golden 1 Center has 23 single-stall, all-gender public restrooms throughout the arena. Community leaders gathered for the official opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday.

LGBT rights groups herald the team's commitment to the transgender community and say they hope all-gender restrooms will become a trend in public spaces.

"We commend the Sacramento Kings and we are hopeful they are the first of many franchises to provide accommodations for all fans," said Rick Zbur, Executive Director of Equality California.

The Golden 1 Center is LEED Platinum certified and also the first of its kind to be entirely solar powered.
