Road Rage Incident Leads To Shooting In Corte Madera, Man Arrested

CORTE MADERA (CBS SF) – Police are investigating a shooting in Corte Madera Thursday morning that they said stemmed from a road rage incident.

Police said the shooting occurred at about 11 a.m. in the 5100 block of Paradise Drive near Robin Drive in Corte Madera.

Central Marin Police Authority police Chief Todd Cusimano said officers responded to the home on reports of shots being fired at the residence.  Cusimano said from an initial investigation, it appears a 69-year-old Tiburon resident followed the 71-year-old homeowner into his garage in the middle of a road rage incident.

Police said the homeowner drove into his garage and the other man tried to drive in behind him.  But the homeowner ended up closing the garage door onto the hood of the other man's car.

Police said it appears the two men then got into a verbal argument.  The homeowner then grabbed a gun and fired warning shots at vacant lot across the street.  The argument escalated to the point that the man from Tiburon suffered two gunshot wounds.

Cusimano said the 71-year-old man, later identified as James Simon, has been arrested in connection with the shooting on suspicion of felony assault with a firearm.

The 69-year-old shooting victim suffered wounds to his leg and torso and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.  He was said to be conscious and talking and authorities said they plan to interview him again on Friday.  He could still face charges in the road rage incident, pending further investigation.
