Kidnapping Suspect Leads Police On High-Speed Chase In Rio Vista
RIO VISTA (CBS SF) – A kidnapping suspect led officers in Rio Vista on a high-speed pursuit Monday afternoon after officers learned a woman was seen jumping out of his car, according to police.
Around 12:55 p.m., officers were notified of a man suspected of domestic violence and kidnapping heading in a car toward Rio Vista from the Stockton area, Rio Vista police said.
Responding officers learned a woman was seen jumping, or possibly being pushed, out of the vehicle as it was traveling on Interstate Highway 5 near Stockton, according to Rio Vista police Cmdr. Julie Gorwood.
Officers also received word the man may be armed with a handgun. Within minutes, officers spotted the suspect driving a black Ford Mustang at the Chevron gas station located along state Highway 12, Gorwood said.
When officers tried to stop the Mustang, the driver fled, heading east on the highway. Officers pursued the suspect with the pursuit reaching speeds of over 100 mph, according to police.
When the driver turned right onto southbound Jackson Slough Road, he lost control, causing the car to slide down an embankment. Officers were able to arrest the man with help from Stockton police and the California Highway Patrol, police said.
The man has been identified as 36-year-old Ahmad Fuller. He was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, making terrorist threats, inflicting corporal injury, carrying a loaded handgun not registered to him, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to jail records.
Fuller was booked into San Joaquin County Jail, where the incident first began.
Information about the condition of the kidnapping victim who allegedly jumped from Fuller's car was not immediately available.
