Richmond High Locked Down Thursday After Student Brings BB Gun

RICHMOND (CBS SF) – Richmond High School was put on lockdown on Thursday morning and a teenage boy was arrested for having a BB gun resembling a pistol, according to police.

Shortly after 10 a.m., a Richmond police school resource officer received a credible tip that a student had a firearm at the campus at 1250 23rd St., according to police.

The school was immediately placed on lockdown as more officers were called in and information was gathered about the student.

The officer obtained the boy's class schedule and located him in the school's gym, according to police.

His backpack was searched and the officer found the weapon, which was determined to be a replica pistol, according to police.

The student, who was apparently on probation, was arrested.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.

Police are asking that parents advise their children not to play with BB guns that cannot easily be distinguished from a real firearm.
