Rescue Crews Searching For Santa Rosa Man, Missing Since Saturday After Hiking Northern California Forest

SANTA ROSA (KCBS)— Rescue crews are searching for a Santa Rosa man who hasn't been seen since Saturday, when he got separated from a friend during a hike in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

59-year-old Stephen Michael Morris was reported missing late Saturday night by friends with whom he was camping in the area, northwest of Redding.

Trinity County Sheriff's Sgt. Will Oliver said Morris and another man were returning to their campsite after hiking a summit, but they became separated.

Morris had power bars and a small amount of water with him, but Oliver said he was not prepared to be out all night in the area where overnight temperatures drop to 20 degrees.

The sheriff's office is leading the search.
