Warriors Draymond Green Arrested In Michigan

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – Golden State Warriors star and Olympian Draymond Green has been arrested for an early assault in East Lansing, home of his alma mater Michigan State University, authorities confirmed Monday.

East Lansing Police Lt. Scott Wriggelsworth told the East Lansing State Journal that Green was arrested in connection with non-aggravated assault after an incident at 2:41 a.m. Sunday.

Citing court documents, the paper said, East Lansing prosecutor Thomas Yeadon has authorized charges of "assault or assault and battery."

The records indicated Green posted $200 bail and his arraignment was scheduled for July 20 in East Lansing's 54B District Court. If convicted of assault or assault and battery, Green could face 93 days in jail, a $500 fine or both.

Wrigglesworth said the incident took place in the 100 block of East Grand River Ave. -- an area bordering the MSU campus that is home to several college bars.

Authorities said Green had gotten into a fight with another man at the corner of Grand River and Abbot in downtown East Lansing. The man was not injured or taken into custody.

The Warriors released a brief statement saying they were aware of the report.

"We are aware of news involving Draymond Green in Michigan over the weekend," the team said. "At this point, we are collecting information and will have no further comment until we have a better understanding of the situation."

Green, a native of Saginaw, Mich., starred as a collegian at MSU and has been a frequent off-season visitor to campus.

The 26-year-old Green was named an NBA All-Star this past season and has been one of the main cogs in the emergence of the Golden State Warriors as one of the league's elite teams.

However, Green has become well known for his on-court outbursts and tough, physical playing style.

With the Warriors leading the Cleveland Cavaliers 3-games-to-1 in the NBA Finals, Green was suspended for Game 5 after an on-court altercation with LeBron James.

The one-game suspension came as a result of Green exceeding the league limit in flagrant fouls.

The defending champion Warriors lost Game 5 and lost momentum in the series. Cleveland eventually won the title in seven games.

Green was recently named with teammates Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant to the 2016 Olympic team.
