Ravens Release Ray Rice After Elevator Fight Video Surfaces

BALTIMORE (CBS SF) - The Baltimore Ravens have cut running back Ray Rice.

Hours after the release of a video that appears to show Rice striking his then-fiancee in February, the team terminated his contract Monday.

The NFL also took action, saying on Twitter that Commissioner "Roger Goodell has announced that based on new video evidence that became available today he has indefinitely suspended Ray Rice."

Rice and the NFL have been the source of criticism since the incident and the botched suspension by the league office. Rice had served one game of a two game suspension related to the incident. Much shorter than players serving drug suspensions.

The move could intensify pressure on the 49ers to do something about Ray McDonald's playing status. McDonald was arrested a week before the team's opening game on domestic violence allegations. Charges have not been filed. McDonald was allowed to play Sunday in Dallas.
