Quiet SJ Neighborhood Stunned After Man Stabs, Kills His Father, Injures His Mom

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A quiet San Jose community was in shock Saturday after a 20-year-old man stabbed and killed his father and injured his mom.

Police and neighbors described it as a bloody, tragic murder scene.

According to neighbors, it's not the first time police have been called to the home. Given the violent history of the son, one neighbor said it was just a matter of time before this happened.

When police arrived at the home in the 6600 block of Charter Oak Place shortly after 6 p.m., they found the front door open, and a distraught woman trying to revive her dying husband.

Neighbor Enzo Marena said she was screaming over him, yelling "stay with me, keep breathing"

The 13-year-old described a scene with a helpless woman and a bloody man with multiple stab wounds on the floor.

"She was having an anxiety attack, definitely," said Marena. "She was very, very distraught, screaming… it was horrible."

Neighbors and police believe the son stabbed his parents. Officers arrested the son, who was covered in blood, five blocks away from the house.

"This is a very violent person," said Lt. Jason Dwyer of the SJPD. "He stabbed someone to death tonight and now, we've taken him off the streets."

The family of three moved here about a year ago. Police said they know the suspect well. They've responded to this house many times in the past.

Neighbors said officers were here just two months ago and the son, in his 20's, has some kind of mental illness. He gets angry and violent.

Police said the son is the lone suspect in the murder case, so they're not looking for anyone else. His mother is recovering from her injuries.

"You just don't know what goes on behind closed doors," said neighbor Janet Marena. "Our condolences to out to the family because no one would ever wish this upon anyone… it's tough… very."

This is San Jose's 24th homicide of the year.
