While the tech industry continues to lead the Bay Area in job creation, demand for health care workers is also expected to improve over the next decade. Kate Knudsen, President and Owner of Irwin & Associates, a South Bay consulting firm composed of medical device professionals, also foresees a continued demand for health care jobs. With more than 14 years in the field, she offers career advice for people interested in pursuing a career in the health care industry.
What is your current position and level of education?
"I am the owner and president of Irwin & Associates, Inc., a medical device consulting firm. I have a B.S. in Biology from Trinity University and a M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from UC Davis."
What advice can you offer to people interested in entering a career in health care?
"Health care and medical devices are at an exciting time. There is much going on and the future is full of opportunities with technology, our aging population and ongoing advances. Always remember that health care and medical devices are truly about the end patient and making lives better."
Do you foresee continued demand in jobs in your industry?
"Absolutely! Lots of new companies are venturing into medical devices and biotech....Microsoft, Google... I don't see the industry slowing down!"
