President Barack Obama Visiting Bay Area; Expect Traffic, Cable Car Disruptions
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – President Barack Obama is in the Bay Area from Thursday evening through Saturday for a cybersecurity summit and fundraiser. Commuters and visitors to San Francisco and the Peninsula should expect traffic disruptions, including the suspension of Cable Car service.
Mr. Obama greeted several dozen supporters after Air Force One landed at San Francisco International Airport around 5:30 Thursday. The president is expected to stay at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco during his visit.
According to a statement from Muni, shuttle buses will replace cable cars on the entire California line through noon on Saturday. The Mason cable car line will continue to operate, while the Hyde cable car line will be out of service from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday.
Service on the 1 California line will also be disrupted.
Some Twitter users posted about the traffic disruptions ahead of the president's arrival.
On Friday, the president will travel to Stanford University for the White House Summit on Cybersecurity and Consumer Protection, which could lead to delays on Highway 101 and Interstate 280.
Later that day, the president is scheduled to attend a Democratic National Committee fundraiser at the home of Sandy and Jeanne Robertson in San Francisco.
The president will depart SFO on Saturday morning and head to Palm Springs for the Presidents' Day weekend.
