San Leandro Winner Of $1.4 Million Powerball Prize Identified

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- California Lottery officials said Friday that the Powerball winner who bought a winning ticket at Pop Top Market & Liquor in San Leandro is Hector Carrera.

Carrera matched five of the six winning numbers in Wednesday's Powerball drawing and won a $1.4 million prize. He has played the lottery in the past, but recently changed the way he picks numbers.

He used to buy Quick Pick tickets or pick numbers randomly, but won the $1.4 million in his second try using his daughter's birth dates.

Carrera and his wife plan to use the money to buy a bigger home and pay off some bills.

Pop Top Market & Liquor is located at 14817 E. 14th St. Two other people picked five winning numbers, but as of Friday neither had claimed their winnings, lottery officials said.

Those tickets were sold in Mono County and Orange County.

The winnings numbers are 11, 13, 25, 39, and 54. The Powerball is number 19.

Wednesday's Powerball drawing was the fifth largest in U.S. history, according to lottery officials. Three people picked all six numbers.

The three winning tickets were sold in North Carolina, Texas and Puerto Rico.

The winners will share in the $564.1 million jackpot.
