Power Restored To Thousands After Outage In El Cerrito

EL CERRITO (CBS SF) -- Power has been restored to all but a couple dozen PG&E customers after an equipment problem affected nearly 6,000 customers in El Cerrito Tuesday morning, according to utility officials.

The outage was reported around 4:20 a.m. and initially affected 5,949 customers in an area including Gatto Street, Kensington Avenue, Elm Street and Potrero Avenue, PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris said.

As of 6:45 a.m., power was restored to all but 28 customers, according to PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian.

The remaining customers affected by the outage should see power restored by this afternoon once repairs have been completed, Sarkissian said.

The outage was caused by equipment failure at the top of a pole, according to Morris.
