Giants Victory Completes Sweep By Las Vegas Underdogs

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - When the San Francisco Giants finished off the Kansas City Royals Wednesday night, they accomplished a sweep of sorts: every single postseason underdog heading into the series pulled off the upset.

Both the Giants and Royals were surprise contenders in the fall classic. Las Vegas oddsmakers projected the Royals for elimination against the Angels and the Orioles, Kansas City swept them both. The Giants were ticketed by bookies to lose to the Nationals, Cardinals and Royals and they beat them all. In fact, even the Orioles and Cardinals were underdogs in their opening rounds.

The only teams favored to win elimination matchup that actually did were the Giants and Royals, who were viewed as very slight favorites in their do-or-die Wild Card games.

Unlike 2012, when the Giants faced elimination six times, this years championship squad was on the ropes for only the first and last games of the postseason. In total, they've one eight consecutive postseason elimination games and eliminated 10 consecutive October foes.

It's no wonder you are now hearing the name Bruce Bochy and the Hall of Fame in the same sentence.
