Poll: Majority Don't Respect Kaepernick Decision To Sit Out Anthem

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A new poll indicates a slim majority of people do not favor the stance taken by 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick on not standing for the national anthem.

A Survey USA poll commissioned for KPIX 5 asked more than 500 people whether or not they respect Kaepernick's decision to sit out the anthem to protest police brutality in the country.

The majority - 55-percent - said they do not respect the decision, while 41 percent said they did support it.Another four percent said they were not sure.

The respondents were also asked if their opinion of Kaepernick had changed. 53 percent said their view of him had diminished, while 31 percent said it was unchanged. Just 16 percent said their opinion of him had gone up.

Meanwhile, when asked when they considered Kaepernick "un-American," nearly two-thirds – 62 percent – said no. 32 percent said yes, while five percent said they were not sure.
