Police Warn 'Breaker-Box' Burglaries May Be Spreading To Bay Area

ROCKLIN (CBS SF) -- Burglars have come up with yet a new way to get into your home. It's called, 'breaker-box burglaries.'

Here's how it works. The lights go out in an unsuspecting homeowner's house. Naturally, one thinks there is a power outage. When that happened at the home of a couple in Rocklin, the husband went outside and found someone had actually shut off their electricity at the breaker box.

Police later told the couple about an alarming trend where burglars shut off the power as a trick to see if anyone is home. If no one is there, they break in. Actual burglaries like this have been reported in Southern California, Orlando, Phoenix and Nashville.
