VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- Police in Vallejo fatally shot a man near a Taco Bell following a high-speed chase through the city Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m., two officers attempted to pull over a vehicle for expired registration near Highways 29 and 37, according to Lt. Sid DeJesus of the Vallejo Police Department. The vehicle did not stop and led officers on a slow pursuit.

DeJesus said the suspect car pulled into the parking lot of a liquor store on the 1600 block of Marine World Parkway. The driver took off when the officers got out of their cars.

The driver then led officers on a high-speed chase through Highway 29, Highway 37, and Interstate 80, reaching speeds exceeding 90 miles an hour. Officers then terminated the pursuit due to dangerous conditions and put out a description of the suspect vehicle.

According to DeJesus, the driver hit several call boxes on I-80 before exiting the freeway at Solano Avenue. Police caught up with the suspect when his car ended up in the parking lot of the Taco Bell on the 2000 block of Solano Avenue.

DeJesus said the suspect vehicle hit a car in the parking lot and rammed the police cars several times. Soon after, the suspect's vehicle becomes locked up with a patrol car.

Soon after, two officers shot at the man. The suspect was transported to the hospital and succumbed to his wounds.

No officers or bystanders were hurt during the incident.
