Police investigate multiple West Oakland shootings that injured three victims, two critically
Police in Oakland are investigating multiple shootings late Monday morning a block away from the West Oakland BART station that left three victims hospitalized including two in critical condition, authorities confirmed.
According to a release sent out by the Oakland Police Department, the shootings happened Monday morning in the area of 8th Street and Center Street near Mandela Parkway. The incident reportedly happened at around 11 a.m., just a block north of the West Oakland BART stop.
While the exact details surrounding the shootings were not provided, Oakland police were notified that several victims injured in the incident were transported to area hospitals by private vehicles for treatment. Their conditions are currently unknown.
Chopper footage of the area around where the shooting took place showed patrol officers blocking the streets at the intersection. An officer could be seen placing evidence markers on the sidewalk and in the street outside the Zion First Church of God In Christ.
Police are asking the public to avoid the area as the shootings are still under active investigation. Oakland police later confirmed that the shooting victims were two juveniles and an adult. Two victims are currently listed in critical condition, and one is in stable condition, police said.
The shooting comes as police investigate multiple shootings that happened just over 24 hours before early Sunday morning during a sideshow in the area of Fruitvale Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard. Five people were injured in that incident.
