Santa Rosa police launch homicide investigation after finding 4 dead inside home

Santa Rosa police are investigating the four people found dead in a home during a welfare check Wednesday afternoon as homicides.

Officers went to the home on the 200 block of Monarch Court, in the Valley Vista mobile home community, just after 3 p.m. to respond to a welfare check. Investigators were asked by a worried relative to check in on the residents.

Police said they knew something was wrong and forced themselves in. They found four people dead inside.

"We do know it was several days based on the information from the reporting party who had not heard from at least two of the individuals for several days," said Sgt. Patricia Seffens.

She added investigators are in the process of figuring out what happened. At this point, she couldn't release the ages, names and the relationships of the four victims. Police did say all of the victims were adults.

Geri Tapparo moved to the senior mobile home community last July.

"It's just a shock," she said. "So quiet out here."

Tapparo said it's an extremely safe neighborhood, but it's not the first time she's seen police respond to her neighbor's house.

"They've been there a couple of times," Tapparo said. "Cause you can see right out of our kitchen window and not with lights going on or anything, but they just pulled up and went in to speak."

Residents were assured by police that they were not in any danger.

"I did ask one police officer that you know, 'I understand this is bad, but are we in danger,'" Tapparo asked. "He goes, 'No.'"

Santa Rosa Police said these types of incidents are extremely rare. In all of 2024, the city only had two homicides.

On Thursday, authorities confirmed that they believed the four people found shot inside the home were all members of the same family.
