Plan To Rename Tunnel After Robin Williams Passes State Assembly
MARIN COUNTY (CBS SF) – A bill that would name the tunnel connecting the Golden Gate Bridge to the North Bay after late actor and comedian Robin Williams has passed the state Assembly.
According to The Press Democrat, the proposal from Assemblyman Marc Levine, D-San Rafael, was unanimously passed by a 77-0 vote on Thursday.
The bill now heads to the Senate's Transportation Committee.
The tunnel currently has no designation, but is known by many as the "Waldo Tunnel."
"Robin Williams grew up and attended Redwood High School in Larkspur, went to College of Marin. Also of course launched his comedy career in the clubs of San Francisco. This tunnel really connects the San Francisco and Marin communities and is a perfect way of tying those parts of his life together," said Levine.
Williams grew up in Marin and spent much of his life there.
He died at his home in Tiburon in August of 2014. The coroner ruled his death a suicide that resulted from asphyxia caused by hanging.
