Petaluma Police Arrest Man Attempting To Rob Whole Foods Market

PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- Officers Friday arrested a man for attempting to rob a Whole Foods Market in Petaluma while aggressively fighting off both employees and police.

Officers were dispatched to the store around 3:40 p.m. in response to reports that Loss Prevention officers were attempting to detain a shoplifting suspect who was assaulting them, according to Petaluma police Lt. Tim Lyons.

The suspect, Gary Gonzalez, 55, of Petaluma, was attempting to steal $20 worth of groceries while fleeing from officers, Lyons said.

Gonzalez hit and injured one officer's wrist, but was quickly detained and arrested for robbery, according to Lyons.

Gonzalez, who is out of custody on Post Release Community Supervision, also had drug paraphernalia and an outstanding warrant for violating his probation, Lyons said.
