Petaluma Man Accused Of 4th DUI In 10 Years

PETALUMA (CBS SF) – Petaluma police arrested a man late Monday night on suspicion of committing his fourth drunk driving offense in the past 10 years, a police sergeant said.

An officer saw tire tracks and brush and debris on the ground of the Orchard Supply Hardware parking lot at 5300 Old Redwood Highway shortly after 11:55 p.m. Monday, Sgt. Ron Klein said.

The tire tracks indicated a vehicle went up a curb on North McDowell Boulevard, across the sidewalk where it leaked fluid and into the parking lot, Klein said.

The trail of fluid led the officer to a 7-Eleven store, where she found a parked white Ford Mustang with several pieces of shrubs stuck under the carriage, Klein said.

Victor Luis Rodriguez, 30, of Petaluma, got out of the Mustang with the ignition keys in his hand and needed to use the side of the car to keep his balance, according to Klein.

Rodriguez, who had a strong odor of alcohol, allegedly admitted driving to a friend's house where he drank eight to 12 beers. Rodriguez said he was waiting for a friend to help him change a flat tire on the Mustang, Klein said.

Rodriguez failed field sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.16 percent, twice the legal limit, Klein said.

A records check determined Rodriguez was on felony probation for DUI convictions in 2007, 2009 and 2012 and has a suspended driver's license, Klein said.

He was booked under no bail in Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of DUI, driving on a suspended license and a probation violation.
