Person On Tracks Killed By Amtrak Capitol Corridor Train In Oakland
OAKLAND (KPIX 5) -- An Amtrak train has struck and killed a person on the tracks in Oakland Wednesday morning, according to a spokeswoman.
The train involved in accident was a Capitol Corridor train from Sacramento to the Oakland Coliseum.
About 8:30am Wednesday morning the person was on the tracks near 37th Street when he or she was hit by the southbound train. The person was dead at the scene, according to authorities.
There were only eight people onboard the train, all headed to the Oakland Airport.
One track has been since reopened, while the second track will be closed for several hours, according to the spokeswoman.
Delays were expected for Amtrak through the Oakland area until the afternoon.
