Daughter Arrested After Elderly Mother Killed In Hammer Attack In Sunnyvale

SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) -- Police have arrested a woman suspected of killing her elderly mother in a Sunnyvale mobile home park Thursday, according to the city's Department of Public Safety.

50-year-old Linde Adrienne Smith was arrested hours after she called police to report her mother's death. Her mother was identified as 81-year-old Frances Smith.

Police said upon searching the residence on the 1200 block of Vienna Drive officers found a hammer believed to have been used in the homicide.

Capt. Jeff Hunter said officers received the first report of the homicide at the Plaza del Ray mobile home park on the north side of Sunnyvale.

Police said on Twitter at 4:11 p.m. that they had arrested Smith after they had detained earlier in the afternoon.

Smith, who lived in the residence with her mother, was the person who called 911 to report the killing and was unarmed and cooperative when officers arrived.

Detectives learned there was an argument that preceded the killing, but were still determining the facts surrounding the incident.

This is the first homicide in Sunnyvale this year, according to police.
