Pedestrian Killed In Santa Rosa Crash

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- The driver of a car that fatally struck a pedestrian in Santa Rosa Monday afternoon is cooperating with investigators, a police sergeant said.

Officers responded to a report of a collision in the area Mendocino Avenue and Benton Street around 2:50 p.m., Santa Rosa police Sgt.  Mike Numainville said.

Arriving officers found the collision on northbound lanes of Mendocino Avenue south of Benton Street , where the pedestrian was pronounced dead by paramedics, Numainville said.

The driver, a 73-year-old Santa Rosa man, stayed at the scene and was cooperative with police, according to Numainville.

The pedestrian's name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, the sergeant said.

An investigation into the collision closed Mendocino Avenue between Benton Street and College Avenue, police said.
