Parking Vigilante Paints Over Red Curbs In Corte Madera Neighborhood To Create Spaces

CORTE MADERA (KCBS) -- Parking in one Corte Madera neighborhood has gotten so tight that it prompted someone to paint over some no parking red curbs to create more spaces.

The Marin IJ reports it happened along a hilly section of Meadowsweet Drive in Corte Madera.

The director of public works says they don't know for sure who painted over the curb.

The mystery over who painted the curbs comes as the city council considers a change in its no parking zones, which would reduce street parking on hilly narrow roadways.

Officials say the police change is aimed at ensuring safety, allowing room for traffic in either direction for emergency vehicles on narrow roads in town.

But residents say there already isn't enough on street parking and more needs to be done to accommodate that need.

Mayor Sloan Bailey says he less interested in learning who painted over the curb then in finding a solution to the parking crunch that addresses residents' concerns.
