Parents Of Woman Killed On SF Pier Want Stricter Punishment For Illegal Immigrants
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The parents of a woman shot to death on a San Francisco pier are supporting a proposed law to deal more harshly with deported immigrants who come back to the U.S.
Jim Steinle and Liz Sullivan spoke with Fox News on Monday about the July 1 death of their daughter Kathryn Steinle near Pier 14.
"We feel this particular set of circumstances and the people involved the different agencies let us down," Steinle said. "We're just a little tired of the finger pointing and just want to see some action, and if 'Kate's Law' saves one person then it's all for good."
The man accused of killing Kate, Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, was deported five times and has a criminal history with seven prior felonies, including four involving narcotics.
San Francisco has a "sanctuary city" policy that prohibits law enforcement officials from detaining an individual on the basis of an immigration detainer when they would otherwise be eligible for release from custody.
